I can repair, design, install and fabricate all kinds of electronic and electrical equipment, mechanical systems, and automation. I have a Gate level understanding of digital logic and computer principles. I am proficient in emedded controllers and assembly language programming. I enjoy and understand physics and general science. I have a special interest in transportation engineering and alternative energy. I am an Avid experimenter and project builder. I have designed interfaces and perephrials for DEC PDP minis, and ISA/EISA Buss PCs, as well as various Motorola 6800 based computers and controllers. I design and build many general electronic and mechatronic devices and gizmos.
My Additional skills include Wood and Metalworking, carpentry, Mechanical design and general mechanical repair. I have a thorough knowledge of DC power systems and Vehicle/Automotive electronics. I have an interest in, and knowledge of, Avionics, Aerospace, and Aircraft construction practices and design.
I have been a computer hobbiest since day one. My first "personal" computer was an OSI-400, and I have owned and used Atari 400 & 800, Commodore Vic-20 & 64, Sinclair ZX81, R.S. Color Computers full size & micro, TRS-80 models I II & III, Tandy M-100, Texas Instruments TI-99A, Xerox 810 (cp/m), Televideo, DEC Rainbow, Osbourne, PDP 8A & 8e, Apple II, Original PC, PC-XT, PC-AT, and every other IBM PC through P3. I am likely forgetting a few. I still have many of these, as well as a large collection of perephrials and PC cards. I started programming basic on an ASR-33 and a Time Share system. I have also programmed a Univac 1219 in machine language (in the service).
I have an extensive knowledge of news media, wire service, and newspaper operations and pre-press production processes and have 30 years experience in a major news organization (On the technical side).
I also have professional skills and experience in computer system troubleshooting and repair, and data communications, with extensive LAN and Telecomm experience. Certifications include A+, Network+, and MCP. I am currently working on my CCNA and CCNP certifications. I am proficient with a variety of software tools, some of which are: Microsoft office suite, Database management and design, workflow and tracking software, Crystal reports, Autocad, Quark Express, Photoshop and many telecomm programs. Operating systems include Windows, Mac OS, OS2, DOS, Unix, cp/m, Vax VMS, and many of the older Microcomputer OS's (Commodore basic anyone?).
Programming experience is in 6800 assembler, various Basic dialects, Some C++, SQL, Clipper/Dbase III, Web design, HTML, Visual Basic and ASP. I have done professional Data Driven Web Site development.
